Chevalier-Bernard 2017 Roussette de Savoie Marestel

Coming from a tremendous slope overlooking the valley, this wine is aged only in stainless steel. Only 7,000 bottles are made. This Marestel delivers a bouquet of great finesse, with aromas of dried pineapple and sweet almond along with some smoky notes. The palate is lively and round, offering superb flavors of exotic fruits counterbalanced by a beautifully dry finish.

Chantal and Jean-Pierre Bernard are the husband and wife team who oversee the Chevallier property in Jongieux, France. This picturesque town is the "capital" of the white grape Altesse. It sits east of Lyon near the base of the steep Mont de la Charvaz. It is on the slopes of this mountain, on the "Marestel" hillside cru above the village, that many of the best parcels of Altesse are planted. This personality-filled grape is obligatory in all AOC Roussette de Savoie wines.

Domaine Brintet Mercurey Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2017

Domaine Brintet Mercurey Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2017

The Mercurey Vieilles Vignes (100% Chardonnay) from the Domaine Brintet is an excellent example of white Mercurey. This small village in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise produces gorgeous wines. And this is no exception. The wine is lush and complex with star anise and spices intermingled with touches of coconut and oak. This silky textured, medium-to-full-bodied wine has a nice long finish. If you are used to other chardonnays in this price range, be prepared to be rocked!

The Brintet history in Mercurey begins with the arrival of Jéhan Briétat from Italy in 1340, when he gained employment as a page at the Chateau de Montaigu. At the end of the 15th century, the name was transformed to Brintet and 100 years later, the family became owners of some vines in Mercurey. Flash forward several centuries and we find Luc Brintet and his wife Veronique heading the 11.5-hectare domaine since 1984.

Hermitage Saint Martin Cotes de Provence Enzo Rosé 2019

Hermitage Saint Martin Cotes de Provence Enzo Rosé 2019

This quintessential Provençal rosé is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault from hillside vineyards. This red-fruit and floral scented, pale-colored rosé has an elegant, mineral driven palate, making it perfect for warm-weather cuisine like grilled chicken, vegetables, sushi, tapenades, flatbreads or cold pasta salads. Certified organic and vegan. These wines are the primogenitor for bottles like our Due Santi Rosato and we cannot get enough of them during the hot summer.

Created in the 11th century by the Saint Victor Abbey, the original estate was then called Château Saint-Martin la Toche. It was much later, during the Second World War, that it was destroyed and then abandoned. In 1999, Guillaume Enzo Fayard, a young passionate winemaker from a longtime Provence wine family.

Chateau du Hureau Saumur Champigny (Cabernet Franc) Tuffe 2018

Michael Housewright photographed this property and it's spectacularly hospitalable proprietor Philippe Vatan. The wines produced here are among the finest examples of Cabernet Franc on earth. The Tuffe is Philippe Vatan’s red made from a wide variety of parcels spread across his limestone-rich vineyards. Aged in stainless-steel in an immaculate cavernous cellar, this has classic Cabernet Franc notes that include black raspberry and just the right amount of savory herbs while finishing with well-integrated tannins. We love this wine with pork in all forms: rillettes, chops or roast. Hell, the wine’s versatility makes it wonderful with beef and chicken too.

Château du Hureau is located in the small town of Dampierre-sur-Loire, about four miles east of Saumur and 15 miles west of Chinon. The Château itself is an impressive sight, with its 18th-century Mansard roof and octagonal tower topped by a boar-headed weathercock, from which the domaine takes its name — a hureau is an old, solitary wild boar.

Behind the Château sits the winery carved into the limestone cliffs during the 13th century and overlooking the Loire River. For wine lovers, the cave is even more impressive than the Château, with numerous paths leading to carved out caverns housing stainless steel vinification equipment and lines of barrels. It reminds one of being in a James Bond movie!

Domaine de Colette Beaujolais Fleurie

Domaine de Colette Beaujolais Fleurie

Like the other two red wines offered in this pack, Domaine de Colette is a benchmark producer of class wines without limitations. Fleurie is a northerly cru located next to Moulin-à-Vent. Soils are granitic and alluvial, and Colette’s vines have an average age of 50 years. Their grapes are harvested manually and undergo carbonic maceration before being pressed. The wine is aged in cement vats for 6 months before bottling. Like many wines from this delightful cru, Colette's Fleurie delivers floral (of course fleur means flower in French) notes of violet, iris and rose, along with fruity aromas/flavors of red fruit, blackcurrant and peach. Delicious with poultry, country pate, leg of lamb or fresh goat cheese.

Domaine de Colette is located in the small village of Lantignié, regarded as the top village in the cru of Regnié, and less than 1 kilometer from the border of Morgon. It is owned and run by the humble Jacky Gauthier (with his wife Evelyne), whose family has been making wine for several generations.

Domaine de la Verde Vacqueyras Prelude 2017

Our final red is a big, bad, boy. This richness rarely comes at such a fine price. The founders of Due Santi Selections drink a LOT of wines from here. You should too. This beauty is a blend of 55% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre and 10% Cinsault. Each vineyard plot as well as each grape variety is vinified on its own and undergoes a long, gentle maceration in a concrete vat. There is no oak aging. A deep purple color, this wine has intriguing aromas of violets, plum and blueberry. It is elegant and seamless with amazingly pure fruit. Recommended by its creators with Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. But we think it crushes it with any protein cooked over a fire.

Sitting in the western part of Vacqueyras, with vineyards spread across one single lieu dit, La Verde, this domaine appears on wine maps drawn in the 18th century (but may have existed long before that). The current owners, the Camallonga family, purchased it in 1963, and their 3rd generation of vignerons is now managing the domaine.
